Crochet Small Coin Purse

Crocheting a small purse is a fun and creative way to make your own stylish accessory. Whether you’re looking for a practical everyday bag or a cute summer purse to take to the beach, this free crochet pattern for a small purse is perfect for beginners and experienced crocheters alike. Using basic stitches like double crochet (dc) and single crochet (sc), you can create a functional and fashionable little bag. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps, provide stitch counts, and help you craft your very own crochet purse.

To start, gather your materials: a F hook, a stitch marker, medium worsted or cotton yarn in your preferred color, and a yarn needle for finishing. This free crochet bag pattern uses US terms and simple techniques like slip stitch (sl st), double crochet (dc), and single crochet (sc). Begin by creating a small foundation chain and working your way up to form the bottom edge of your purse. As you progress, you’ll build up the sides of the bag with a combination of dc and sc, keeping track of your stitch counts to ensure uniformity. Make sure to mark the next st with your stitch marker, as this will help you keep track of the rounds.

Assemble: Fold the piece with the front side facing out, then sew the sides together. Leave the top open; this will form the flap to close the purse. You can sew a button in the center of the flap for added closure. This process is best demonstrated in the video.

The fun part of this pattern is the versatility of the bag. You can add your own unique touches by adjusting the size, color, or even adding a cute tuck lock closure for security. Once you’ve reached your desired height, finish off your crochet purse with a slip stitch (sl st) and weave in the ends using a yarn needle. This purse is designed to be practical, yet stylish, perfect for holding your beach essentials or carrying items for everyday use. Plus, it’s a great project to try if you’re interested in creating your own crochet handbags or small market bags.
