Starting chain: Multiple of 6 + 2

Abbreviations:

ch = chain; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; sl st = slip stitch; st(s) = stitch(es); sp = space; 4-dc-cl = 4 double crochet cluster.

4-DC Cluster: YO, insert hook into the indicated stitch, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops. Repeat from * to * 4 times in the same stitch. You will have 5 loops on your hook. YO and pull through all 5 loops.

I hook, Starting chain: Multiple of 6 + 2

Tutorial sample: Ch 20 but for a throw I would try 144 chains plus 2, this is about 42 inches across.
Row 1 – Beige/Neutral

Ch a multiple of 6 + 2.

Dc in 4th ch from hook. The 3 skipped chains count as the first dc.

Dc in each ch across.

Do not fasten off. Remove hook from loop and place a locking stitch marker in the loop to hold the beige yarn.

Row 2 – Orange Pumpkins, orange yarn

Turn your work. Join orange yarn in the first st next to the held beige loop.

Ch 2. Does not count as a stitch.

Skip next st.

Work 4-dc-cluster in next st.

These 2 clusters form one pumpkin.

Ch 4, skip next 4 sts, 4-dc-cl in each of next 2 sts.

Repeat from * to * across until 2 sts remain.

Ch 1, skip next st, sl st in last st/turning ch.

Ch 1 and fasten off orange.

Row 3 – Beige yarn

Return the held beige loop to your hook. Do not turn.

Ch 3. Counts as first dc.

Dc in next beige st, crocheting over the orange chain to enclose it.

Ch 2 and skip the 2 orange clusters/pumpkin.

Dc in next 4 beige sts, crocheting over the orange ch-4. Ch 2, skip next pumpkin.

Repeat across.

After the final ch 2, dc in each of the last 2 beige sts, crocheting over the orange chain.

Place beige loop on hold with stitch marker. Do not cut beige.

Row 4 – Green Pumpkin Stems, green yarn

Turn work. Join green yarn in first st.

Ch 2. Does not count as a stitch.

Sc into the top/center of the first pumpkin, catching the beige ch-2 as you work.

Ch 5, sc into top/center of next pumpkin, catching the beige ch-2.

Repeat across all pumpkins.

After the final sc, ch 2.

Sl st in top of the last st/starting ch-3 from Row 3.

Ch 1 and fasten off green.

Row 5 – Beige yarn

Return the held beige loop to your hook. Do not turn.

Ch 3. Counts as first dc.

Dc in next st, crocheting over the green chain.

Hdc in the green sc at the top of the first pumpkin.

Dc in the chain space from Row 3 beside the pumpkin, catching the green chain.

Dc in next 4 sts, crocheting over the green chain. Hdc in next green sc. Dc in Row 3 chain space beside pumpkin, catching green chain.

Repeat across.

Dc in each of the last 2 sts, crocheting over the green chain. The final dc goes into the same/top stitch where the green row was joined.

Row 6 – Ch 3, dc in each stitch across

Now Offset Pumpkin Section

The next four rows move the pumpkins over so they form the staggered/diamond arrangement shown in the tutorial.

Row 7 – Orange Offset Pumpkins

Place beige loop on hold. Turn work.

Join orange yarn in first st.

Ch 5. Skip 4 sts. 4-dc-cl in each of the next 2 sts.

Ch 4, skip 4 sts, 4-dc-cl in each of next 2 sts.

Repeat across until 5 sts remain.

Ch 4.

Sl st into top of the starting ch/st at the end of the row.

Ch 1 and fasten off orange.

Row 8 – Beige yarn

Return beige loop to hook.

Ch 3. Counts as first dc.

Dc in each of the next 5 sts, crocheting over the orange chain.

Ch 2, skip pumpkin.
