This Child’s Poncho was made for my 3‑year-old but can be adjusted for different sizes. If you want to make it for a minor child, I would go down a hook size and go up a hook size for an older child. I made this for my 3‑year-old. I did this in multiples of 8. I chained 72 with an H hook. Now if you want to make this for a different size, then make sure it’s in a multiple 8 and it can fit over the child’s head, you can always change the hook size as well.
H hook
Rnd 1: Start with Pink yarn, Chain 72, sl st in the beginning chain to join to make a ring. Sc in each chain around. sl st. ‑72 sc
Rnd 2: Sl st with White yarn, Chain 3 (Counts as a dc), dc in the next two sc, *skip sc, Chain 1, dc in the next 3 sc, *Repeat around, sl st 18 (3 dcs)
Rnd 3: Sl st into the chain 1 space, then sl st with Pink yarn, Chain 3 (Counts as a dc), work 2 dc in the same chain 1 space, *Chain 1, work 3 dc in the next chain 1 space, *Repeat for a total of 8 (3 dc’s), Chain 1, work 3 dc in the next chain 1 space, chain 1, work 3 dc, (it creates an increase, so you have a 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next chain 1 space after 8( 3 dc’s ), **Chain 1, work 3 dc the next chain 1 space, **Repeat for a total of 8 times, ch 1, then work 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1,(creates an increase) sl st on top of the beginning ch 3 space.
Rnd 4: Repeat round 3, but with the increases, it will get bigger by 1(3 dcs, ch 1) before the increases.
Sl st into the chain 1 space, then sl st with White yarn, Chain 3 (Counts as a dc), work 2 dc in the same chain 1 space, *Chain 1, work 3 dc in the next chain 1 space, *Repeat for a total of 9 (3 dc’s), Chain 1, work 3 dc in the next chain 1 space, chain 1, work 3 dc, (creates an increase, so you have a 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next chain 1 space after 9 (3 dc’s), **Chain 1, work 3 dc the next chain 1 space, **Repeat for a total of 9 times, ch 1, then work 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1,(creates an increase) sl st on top of the beginning ch 3 space.
Rnds 5–20: Each round will increase by 1 set of 3 dcs, before the increase of 3d, ch 1, 3dc, Sl st into the next chain 1 space, then sl st with Pink yarn, *Repeat Round 3, but alternate with white and pink yarn each round. I did 20 Rounds of Pink and White back and forth, continuing until your desired length. Weave in the Ends.
