Add a Cord Purse Handle to Your Purse

Create this crochet shell clutch purse for a night out! It’s made with pretty medium-wasted yarn and measures 5 inches by 7.5 inches when it’s finished. You can adjust the hook size by changing it.

Medium Worsted Yarn or Cotton yarn, or you could use thread yarn to make a small one.

To Make this Smaller: Use a Smaller or Larger hook to make it larger.

Abbreviations

Chain=Ch

Slip Stitch=Sl st

Single Crochet=sc

Double Crochet=dc

Measures: 5 inches X 7.5 inches

Row 1: Ch 29, plus Ch 1= 30 chains, Sc in the 2nd Ch from the hook and sc in each remaining chain, end with 3 sc in the last ch.  work along the opposite side.

Row 2: sc in the next sc, sc in each remaining sc, end with 2 sc at last sc, Sl st in the last sc

Rnd 3: You will be working in rounds as you go around without turning your work; work along the opposite side, Ch 1, sc in the same stitch as the ch 1, sc in each sc across

(Continuing from Round 3): working along the opposite side, do turn, sc in each sc around (you can use a marker to keep track of that beginning sc) skip the last sc, Sl st in the beginning sc

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in the same stitch as the ch 1, sc in each sc across and along the opposite side. Dont turn, sc around to the beginning sc, skip last sc, Sl st in the beginning sc

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in the same stitch as the Ch 1, Starting Shells: Skip two sc, Work 5 dc to create the first shell, *skip two sc, sc in the next sc, skip two sc, work 5 dc in the next sc, *Repeat to the beginning with two sc left in the round, (you will finish with a shell in this round) Sl st on top of the beginning sc. (10 Shells in each Round)

Rnd 6: Ch 3, 2 dc in the same stitch, *sc in the 3rd dc of the previous shell, 5 dc in the center sc from the previous row, *Repeat all around, work 2 dc in the with the beginning 3 dc, Sl st on top of the beginning Ch 3.

Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in the same stitch as sl st, *5 dc in the 3 rd dc from the previous round, sc in 3rd dc from the previous round, *Repeat around, ending with a shell. Now you can change colors if you like (sl st your new color in, sl st with your new color in the beginning sc.) if you don’t change colors, then just sl st in the beginning sc.

Rnd 8: Repeat Rnd 6

Rnd 9: Repeat Rnd 7

Alternate between Rnd 6 and 7 for your shells. You can change colors and Repeat for your desired length. I Repeated the colors for 3 Rounds, then switched colors.

Rnds 14–15: I did nine Rounds of Shells: Ch 1, sc in the same stitch, sc in each stitch around, and so on, for two rounds total. Sl st in beginning stitch.

Rnd 16: sc in the next 16, In the same stitch as your sc, Ch 14 (button loop, make sure the loop fits around your size button), sc in the same stitch as loop sc (so you will have two sc with the chain loop), sc in each remaining st around. sl st in beginning sc

Rnd 17: Sl st in each sc around, Sl st into the sc of the button loop too, Sl st in the beginning stitch, Fasten off.

Sew the Button below the Chain 16; wrap the button loop around the button from the opposite side. I hope you enjoyed this free crochet pouch pattern!
