Body: To get start­ed, you’ll need some basic cro­chet sup­plies, includ­ing your favorite yarns in dif­fer­ent col­or choic­es and var­i­ous yarn weights, such as worsted weight, bulky weight, and super bulky yarn. You can add a faux fur pom or yarn pom pom for extra flair. We rec­om­mend using a cro­chet hook size that match­es the yarn you’ve cho­sen, whether a size H or a dif­fer­ent mm hook size.

Made this for a tod­dler-preschool­er (12 months‑3 yrs), 18″-20″ head cir., hat length=7″ =H hook

Use a small­er hook for a small­er size or elim­i­nate some increas­es. Use a larg­er hook for a larg­er size or increase a few more times.

Instruc­tions:

H hook

Black yarn
ch 4, slip stitch to form a ring,
Rnd 1. Work 10sc in the ring. slip stitch. (10sc)
Rnd 2. Work 2sc in each stitch around, now work in con­tin­u­al rounds, (20sc)
Rnd 3. Sin­gle cro­chet in each stitch around, (20sc)
Rnd 4. *sc in the first stitch, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat for that round (30sc)
Rnd 5. Sin­gle cro­chet in each stitch around, (30sc)
Rnd 6. *sc in the next two stitch­es, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat, (40sc)
Rnd 7. Sin­gle cro­chet in each stitch around, (40sc)
Rnd 8. *sc in the next three stitch­es, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat (50sc)
Rnd 9. Sin­gle cro­chet in each stitch around, (50sc)
Rnd 10. *sc in the next four stitch­es, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat (60sc)
Rnd 11. Sin­gle cro­chet in each stitch around, (60sc)
Rnd 12. Slip Stitch now, and sc in the back loops only in each stitch around, then slip stitch again (60sc)Rnd 12–35. *Sin­gle Cro­chet in each stitch around, (60sc) *Repeat, Or what­ev­er desired length you pre­fer

The Brim:
Rnd 36. *sc in the next two stitch­es, 2sc in the next stitch, *Repeat
