I will show you how to make these cute yarn orna­ment hats with a paper tow­el or toi­let paper roll and just yarn. They’re adorable and easy to do. It’s like an excel­lent, fun DIY yarn activ­i­ty for the hol­i­days. Let’s get start­ed.

First, I’m using a toi­let paper hold­er and mea­sur­ing about an inch, cut­ting it. This is a lit­tle bit big­ger than a paper tow­el hold­er, and it’s what you’ll use for the hat’s brim.

Next, I’m using any card­board I found on a cere­al box and mea­sur­ing it to about five to six inch­es. You can do about six by six or five by five. Then, I’m wrap­ping it about 20 or so times, maybe 20 to 25 times around.

Now, you’re going to cut one side of it, and these strands of yarn are what you will use around the brim of that paper tow­el hold­er or toi­let paper hold­er brim that you cut ear­li­er.

Take your strand of yarn and fold it in half. Then, loop it around and pull it through the loop, the two strands of yarn. I’m doing sec­tions of green and sec­tions of red for Christ­mas. I will do five strands of one col­or togeth­er and then five strands of the oth­er col­or. Con­tin­ue doing that until it’s filled all the way around.

Now, place all of the strands going into the oppo­site side so it cre­ates the cuff of the hat. Pull them all through. You can use a lit­tle rub­ber band or some­thing to place it around the ends to cre­ate the top of the hat. Then, cut the top of the hat to make it straight. It will start tak­ing shape, but you can place cot­ton balls inside to give it a fuller look.

Take your scis­sors and shape the top of the hat into a pom-pom. Your hat is com­plete. You can hang it on your tree with an orna­ment hook or strand. This is what it looks like when it’s fin­ished.
