To begin your crochet unicorn hat, you’ll need a few essential materials: worsted-weight yarn in your favorite colors, a crochet hook, a tapestry needle, and a stitch marker. This project is perfect for experimenting with different yarn weights and your favorite yarn brands.

Abbreviations:

ch=chain
sc=single crochet
dc=double crochet
sl st=slip stitch
2sctog=2 single crochet together decrease
2dctog=2 dc together decrease

Supplies:

I used Sparkle Fushia and White yarn, or whatever you prefer.
G Hook, H hook, Yarn needle

rnd 1: Work 11 dc in a Magic Circle, sl st on top of the chain 3. -11 dc
Video on a Double Crochet Magic Circle:

rnd 2. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in same st. as joining, 2dc in each dc around. join with sl st on top of chain 3. -22 dc
rnd 3. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), *2dc in next dc, dc in the next dc, Repeat from *around, join with sl st. -33 dc
rnd 4. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the next dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, Repeat from *around, join with sl st. -44 dc
rnd 5. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the 2 next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next 3 dc, 2dc in the next dc. Repeat from * around, join with sl st. -55 dc
rnds 6-desired length (lengths are listed above), Ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in each dc around, sl st to join. -55 dc, Repeat this until your hat reaches 7 inches or for your desired size and length. Fasten off and Weave in the ends. 
Ear flaps: If you would like to add ear flaps

Make 2

H hook, White and Fushia yarn
1st ear flap, you can slip stitch onto the side of the hat with your White yarn begin the dc stitches. (like to have the seam in the back of the hat, so I do the ear flap on the side of the hat)

2nd flap, fold hat in half and sl st in dc directly across from the last dc from the other ear flap. Follow the directions below for both ear flaps.

Row 1. ch 2, dc in the next 11 dc stitches, turn. -11 sts
Row 2. ch 2, dc2tog. dc in the next 6 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -9
Row 3. ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st., turn. -7
Row 4. ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 2 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -5
Row 5. ch 2, dc2tog twice, dc in last st. cut yarn and pull through -3

Around the edge of the hat, I single crochet around the hat with Fushia yarn. The braid from the center of the ear flap at the bottom, H hook, Fushia, and White yarn, with a sl st in the center of the bottom of the ear flap and chain 30, and sl st it off and cut yarn.

Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 4 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. sl st.
Rnd 2:  *work 1 sc in the next sc, work 2sc in the next sc, *Repeat around, sl st.
Rnd 3: *work 1 sc in the next 2 sc, work 2sc in the next sc, *Repeat around, sl st.
Rnd 4: work 1 sc in each sc around, sl st.
Rnd 5: *work 1 sc in the next 3 sc, work 2sc in the next sc, *Repeat around, sl st.
Rnd 6: *work 1 sc in the sc, work 2sc in the next sc, *Repeat, sl st.
Rnds 7-8: work 1 sc in each sc around, sl st. Twice
Rnd 9: *work 1 sc in the next sc, work 2sctog decrease in the next sc, *Repeat around, sl st.
Rnds 10-11: work 1 sc in each sc around, sl st. Twice Fasten off.
Attach the ears on top of the head of the hat about 2 inches apart.
Horn: H hook, Fushia yarn,
Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 4 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sl st. -4 sc
Rnd 2: work 1 sc in each sc around, sl st. -4 sc
Rnd 3: *work 1 sc in the next sc, work 2sc in the next sc, *Repeat around, work in continual rounds without the slip stitch. Use a marker.
Rnd 4: work 1 sc in each sc around, sl st.
Rnd 5: *work 1 sc in the next two sc, work 2sc in the next sc, *Repeat around.
Rnd 6: work 1 sc in each sc around, sl st.
Rnd 7: *work 1 sc in the next three sc, work 2sc in the next sc, *Repeat around.
Rnd 8: work 1 sc in each sc around, sl st.
Rnd 9: *work 1 sc in the next four sc, work 2sc in the next sc, *Repeat around.
Rnd 10: work 1 sc in each sc around, sl st.
Rnd 11: *work 1 sc in the next five sc, work 2sc in the next sc, *Repeat around.
Rnds 12-16:  work 1 sc in each sc around, sl st. Repeat for a total of 5 times. Fasten off.

Attach the Horn about 2 inches in front of the Ears, in the center.

Main: Fushia Yarn, H hook,
Take about 10 inches of fushia yarn at a time, and Slip Stitch around the horn in each previous double crochet around. Do this around the Horn for two Rounds in each last double crochet. Then, in the back of the hat for the Main, Slip Stitch a 10-inch piece of yarn in the center of the hat about 10 dc across, but make it go down the middle of the hat in the back. Then, do another Slip Stitch of 10-inch yarn below that row for 10 dc across. Repeat this until two rows are left at the bottom; leave them untouched. Fasten off.
