Crochet Abbreviations List:

  • sl knot – Slip Knot

  • ch – Chain

  • sl st – Slip Stitch

  • dc – Dou­ble Cro­chet

  • tr – Tre­ble (or Triple) Cro­chet

  • st / sts – Stitch / Stitch­es

  • rnd – Round (not direct­ly used but use­ful to know)

  • rep – Repeat (used in pat­tern instruc­tions)

  • FO – Fas­ten Off

Materials Needed

  • 100% cot­ton yarn or medi­um worsted yarn in two con­trast­ing col­ors
  • G cro­chet hook (or size suit­able for your yarn)
  • Yarn nee­dle

Center Circle (Main Color)

Round 1
Start with a Mag­ic Ring (MR).
ch 3 (counts as a dc), Then make 11 dc into the ring (total = 12 dc).
Tight­en the ring and join with a sl st to the first dc. (12 sts)

Round 2
ch 3, Make 1 dc in the same stitch (increase).
2 dc in each stitch around.
Join with a sl st. (24 sts)

Round 3
ch 3, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st – repeat around.
Join with sl st. (36 sts)

Fas­ten off and change to Con­trast­ing Col­or.

Heart Puff Stitch Round (Contrast Color)

Attach yarn into any of the pre­vi­ous dc.

Puff Stitch (puff st):
Yarn over, insert into stitch, pull up loop to height of dc — repeat 4 times (you’ll have 9 loops on the hook).
Yarn over and pull through all loops. Ch 2 to secure.

  1. Start: You have 1 loop on the hook.

  2. 1st time: Yarn over, insert, pull up loop → +2 loops → now 3 loops on hook

  3. 2nd time: Yarn over, insert, pull up loop → +2 more → now 5 loops

  4. 3rd time: Yarn over, insert, pull up loop → +2 more → now 7 loops

  5. 4th time: Yarn over, insert, pull up loop → +2 more → now 9 loops

Round 5

  • Start with 1 puff st, ch 2, 1 puff st in the same st (this forms a heart).
  • Ch 2, skip 2 sts, and repeat 1 puff st, ch 2, 1 puff st into the next st.
  • Con­tin­ue around.
  • When com­plete, join with sl st to the top of the first puff st and fas­ten off.

Finishing Round (Main Color)

Rejoin main col­or in any ch‑3 space between two hearts.

  • In ch‑2 space: sl st in with your col­or, 2 sc.
  • In next space between hearts: 5 dc.
  • Alter­nate between 2 sc and 5 dc around the coast­er.
  • Fin­ish with sl st to the first sc. Fas­ten off.
