How to Crochet a Flip-Flop Cover

In this crochet tutorial, we’ll create a stylish and comfy Flip Flop Cover using a free pattern. Whether revamping old flip-flops or starting from scratch, this DIY project is a great way to add a personal touch to your summer footwear. Follow our detailed instructions and video tutorial for an easy and fun pattern.

Start by making a slip knot and working the first stitch onto the sole. To build a simple design, utilize single crochet stitches (sc), slip stitches (sl st), and half double crochet (half double crochet).

Pay attention to the toe area as you repeat rows, ensuring a snug fit for your crochet flip-flops. Incorporate fun patterns like peekaboo picot flip-flops or dream catcher crochet sandals for a unique touch. Use an extra sharp tool to poke holes in the soles for straps, securing them with slip stitches or strap plugs.

- Crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch marker

H and F hook
Red Heart Love White yarn

Flip Flops, I wear a size 9. Bought these for on 99 cents.

Abbreviations:

ch=chain
sc=single crochet

hdc=half double crochet

Now if your foot is smaller, you can do less sc around the straps, or more if you have a larger size sandal. I would follow the pattern when it comes to how many hdc.

Row 1: Start with a H hook, Slip knot onto your hook, wrap it around the strap of the flip flop at the end of the flip flop, sc 40 sc up to the top center thong part of the flip flop and sc 40 sc back down the strap. Fasten off.
Row 2: Now with a F hook, Slip stitch with your white yarn, go up 16 stitches, sl st into the 16th sc, Chain 3 (counts as dc and chain 1), skip two sc, *hdc, chain 1, skip two sc, *Repeat up to the top, that should be 8 hdc, and they go down the other side of the strap for 8 hdc and chain 1, slip stitch in the next sc, Turn ‑16 hdc
Row 3: Sl st into the chain 1, Chain 3 (counts as dc and chain 1), *hdc in the next chain 1 space, chain 1, *Repeat that up and down both straps, chain 1, sl st in the next sc, Turn ‑16 hdc
Row 4: sl st in the chain 1, Chain 3 (counts as dc and chain 1), *hdc in the next chain 1 space, chain 1, *Repeat that up and down both straps, Chain 3, sl st in the next sc. Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

Don’t forget the details—weave in loose ends with a yarn needle and create a peekaboo picot or dream catcher design. To personalize your flip-flop covers, experiment with different colors and textures, such as comfy T‑shirts or bulky yarn.
