Crochet Fingerless Gloves

Crocheting a pair of fingerless gloves is a fun and practical project, especially when you use the moss stitch technique to create a cozy, textured design. Whether you’re making them for yourself or as a gift for loved ones, these fingerless mitts are perfect for the winter season when you want to keep your hands warm but still need your fingers free for texting, typing, or other activities. This free crochet pattern will guide you step-by-step through making beautiful and functional fingerless gloves, using basic crochet stitches like single crochet (sc) and slip stitches (sl st). Perfect for beginner crocheters, this pattern offers a simple way to create custom gloves that fit your own hands using worsted weight yarn and a standard mm hook.

The beauty of this fingerless glove pattern lies in its simplicity. The main stitch used is the moss stitch, which consists of alternating single crochet and chain spaces. This stitch pattern creates a lovely, textured fabric that’s both stretchy and warm. To begin, you’ll create a foundation chain, and then start working in the round, using slip stitches (sl st) to connect the rows and keep the gloves seamless. A stitch marker is essential to keep track of where each row begins and ends, especially when you’re working in the round.

By adjusting the number of rows or using different hook sizes, you can make gloves that fit perfectly. As you work through the pattern, you’ll make a thumb hole by skipping a set of stitches, creating a gap that will allow your thumb to move freely. Whether you want a solid-colored pair or a multicolored design, the free pattern accommodates both, and the video tutorial is a helpful guide for any tricky spots. Don’t forget to use a tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends and ensure your gloves look polished at the end.

If you want to create wrist warmers or even a matching scarf, the moss stitch also works well for other accessories. The pattern allows for easy adjustments, so you can create gloves in different sizes—perfect for family or friends.
