**Select Your Yarn and Hook**: To begin your crochet baby blanket or afghan, choose a yarn type that matches your preference. Depending on your desired outcome, you can opt for worsted-weight yarn, bulky-weight yarn, or even chunky yarn. Ensure you have the right crochet hook size for your selected yarn weight.

**Color Changes**: To add a touch of creativity, consider changing yarn colors as you work on your crochet project. This will result in a beautiful, colorful design. Be sure to secure color changes neatly to maintain a polished look.

This crochet blanket is so simple and easy, but beautiful when finished. You can use as many chains as you like to start for the width. I used a G hook and impeccable yarn.

hdc=half double crochet
Row 1: Chain as many as you would like, I did a sample of 25 with a G hook. Turn
Row 2: Chain 1, hdc in each stitch across, Turn
Row 3: Chain 2, insert your hook in the stitch, grab the yarn, draw up your loop, insert your hook in the next stitch, grab the yarn, draw up your loop, yarn over, and pull through all 3 loops on the hook.
*insert your hook in the same stitch as your previous stitch, grab the yarn, draw up your loop, insert your hook in the next stitch, grab the yarn, draw up your loop, yarn over, and pull through all 3 loops on the hook. *Repeat to the end of your row.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 for the desired length. Fasten off and Weave in your ends.

**Stitch Patterns**: Experiment with crochet patterns like linen stitches, granny squares, or ripple blankets. These patterns can create intricate designs and add unique textures to your afghan.

**Size and Shape**: Determine the size of your blanket or afghan, whether you want a square blanket, lap blanket, or a large blanket for your living room. The size will dictate the number of rows and stitches you must complete.

**Skill Level**: Start with easy crochet stitches and patterns if you’re a beginner. As you progress, you can try more complex designs.

 **Finishing Touches**: The last row of your blanket is just as important as the first. A slip stitch (sl st) or double crochet (dc) can provide a neat finish. Don’t forget the turning chain to give your work the right height.

Creating a crochet baby blanket or afghan is a gratifying endeavor that allows you to showcase your skills and creativity. With a variety of free crochet patterns, basic crochet stitches, and a choice of different yarn types and colors, you can craft a cozy, beautiful, and unique blanket. This makes for an excellent gift, especially for baby showers. Remember to respect the terms of use, and feel free to adapt the patterns to suit different blanket sizes. So, whether you’re a new crocheter or a seasoned pro, your next project can be a stunning crocheted afghan to become your favorite blanket for personal use or as a thoughtful gift. Enjoy your crocheting journey!
