You’ll work with worsted-weight yarn for this project, and a size H cro­chet hook is rec­om­mend­ed. Depend­ing on your pref­er­ence, you can use dif­fer­ent yarn weights, like bulky or super bulky, to cre­ate a hat that suits your style.

Instruc­tions: H hook, dark brown yarn

child 3–10 yrs, head cir., 19″-20 1/2 ““, hat length= 7.5”=H hook

rnd 1: Work 11 dc in a Mag­ic Cir­cle, sl st on top of the chain 3. ‑11 dc

rnd 2. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in same st. as join­ing, 2dc in each dc around. join with sl st on top of chain 3. ‑22 dc
rnd 3. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), *2dc in next dc, dc in the next dc, Repeat from *around, join with sl st. ‑33 dc
rnd 4. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the next dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, Repeat from *around, join with sl st. ‑44 dc
rnd 5. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the 2 next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next 3 dc, 2dc in the next dc. Repeat from * around, join with sl st. ‑55 dc
rnds 6‑desired length (lengths are list­ed above), Ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in each dc around, sl st to join. ‑55 dc, Repeat this until your hat reach­es 6.5 inch­es or for your desired hat size and length. 
Sl st with Light Brown yarn, Ch 3, dc in each dc around, sl st. Then back to sl st with dark brown yarn, ch 3, dc in each dc around. sl st. Fas­ten off. 
Ear flaps: If you would like to add ear flaps
Make 2, H hook
H hook, dark brown yarn
1st ear flap, you can slip stitch onto the side of the hat with your brown yarn, begin the dc stitch­es, (like to have the seam in the back of the hat, so I do the ear flap on the side of the hat)
2nd flap, fold hat in half and sl st in dc direct­ly across from the last dc from the oth­er ear flap. fol­low the direc­tions below for both ear flaps.
ch 2. dc in the next 11 dc stitch­es, turn. ‑11 sts
ch 2. dc2tog. dc in the next 6 stitch­es. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. ‑9
ch 2. dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitch­es. dc2tog. dc in the last st., turn. ‑7
ch 2. dc2tog, dc in the next 2 stitch­es. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. ‑5
ch 2. dc2tog twice, dc in last st. cut yarn and pull through ‑3
The braid from the cen­ter of the ear flap at the bot­tom, use dark brown and light brown yarn, with a sl st in the cen­ter of the bot­tom of the ear flap and chain 30, and sl st it off and cut yarn
Sc around the edge of the hat with light brown yarn.

Ears:

Make 2

G hook

rnd 1. chain 3, join with sl st. to cre­ate a ring
rnd 2. 10 sc into the ring, sl st. join
rnd 3. *2sc in the next st, *Repeat to fin­ish round (20 sts)
rnd 4. *1 sc in the next st, 2sc in the next st, *Repeat, sl st.
(30 sts)
rnd 5. *1 sc in the next 2 stitch­es, 2sc in the next st, *Repeat, sl st. (40 sts) Fold the cir­cle in half and sc the cir­cle togeth­er to cre­ate a half cir­cle. Then sew the two half cir­cles on top of the hat to cre­ate ears about 2 inch­es apart.
Muz­zle: G hook,  light brown yarn,
ch 2, sc from the 2nd chain from the hook 6 times, sl st ‑6 sc
rnd 1. sc in the same stitch, 2sc in each stitch around, use a mark­er to keep track of your rounds ‑12 sc
rnd 2. *sc in the next stitch, 2sc in the next stitch, *repeat, ‑18 sc
rnd 3. *sc in the next 2 stitch­es, 2sc in the next stitch, *repeat, ‑24 sc
rnd 4. *sc in the next 3 stitch­es, 2sc in the next stitch, *repeat, ‑30 sc fas­ten off, stuff the muz­zle light­ly, and sew it on the mid­dle hat toward the bot­tom. Sew in a nose with a yarn nee­dle and dark brown yarn, just sew in the cen­ter tri­an­gle.

Eyes: Option­al, you can add but­tons or cre­ate eyes, Make 2, H hook, light brown yarn, ch 2, work 5sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sl st, and sew the eyes about 2 inch­es apart above the muz­zle.

**Fin­ish­ing Touch:** After reach­ing the desired height, fin­ish your work, leav­ing a long tail. Use a yarn nee­dle to weave in the yarn tail, clos­ing the top of the hat.
